The centroid is the center of a peak. It is calculated to give the peak position also in fractions of a channel. There are quite some approaches possible to calculate the centroid. They differ mainly in which channels are taken for calculation. Practically it is possible to calculate the centroid down to an accuracy of 0.1 channel.
