Nucleonica Newsletter 2021

January 2nd, 2021

Happy New Year!
2020 in Review
Dear Nucleonica Users,
2020 has brought many challenges for the Nucleonica Team. In particular the spread of the corona virus has meant that for our colleagues, “working from home” became the default mode of operation. A positive side effect has been the preparation of online training courses via video conferencing. A first course using this technology was a nuclear security training course for staff of the Bundesamt für Strahlenschutz (BfS) arranged as a video conference in September 2020. Both the participants and the presenters were very satisfied.
Another positive side effect was the more focused developments of the Responsive Web Applications (RWD Apps) which are optimised for easy navigation across devices i.e. PCs, tablets and smartphones. Through the use of RWD apps, the applications and Powerpoint presentations could be shown alongside each other in different browser tabs. This feature made the video conferencing extremely useful.
NN_2021 Nucleonica Online Applications
During 2020 the Nucleonica developers have continued to focus on increasing the number of applications available with Responsive Web Design (RWD). These web applications are optimized for easy navigation across multiple devices (i.e. PCs, tablets and smartphones). A further advantage of RWD Apps is their use in training courses, especially where video conferencing is being used. Here the user can adjust the width of the browser so that a presentation on the app can be shown alongside the application.
Dedicated Training Courses
We were also active organizing dedicated Training Courses:
– Introduction to Nucleonica: Core Applications and Tools, 22 January, KTE, Karlsruhe, 2020.
– Online (video conference) Nucleonica Training Course on Nuclear Security, 29-30 September 2020.
Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart, new 10th Edition 2018
Work on the Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart continues with the inputting of new and updated nuclear data and further developments of the online version of the Chart KNCO++ which will be used to prepare future for new editions of the Chart.
We Welcome your Feedback
Again we value the many suggestions and proposals which we received during past year from all partners and users that helped us improve the applications. These developments were made possible in particular through collaboration with our colleagues the Federal Office for Radiation Protection (BfS).

The Nucleonica Team would like to thank you for your continued support.
Best wishes for 2021,
Sincerely yours,
Joseph Magill
Managing Director
