New Calls for Research Fellows and Trainees at ITU

February 10th, 2010

The Instititue for Transuranium Elements (ITU) has announced new calls for research fellows and trainees for Nucleonica related projects.

Research fellowship project (Ph. D.) for A Gamma Simulation Kit for Nuclear Security:

The purpose of this Ph.D thesis study is to analyze the capabilities of Geant4 compared to MCNP in order to check the feasibility of developing a Gamma Simulation Tool for the NUCLEONICA web-portal, based on the previous eMC development. In addition, the new tool should be tested for its use in the field of Nuclear Security by evaluating its performance through experiments related to the scenarios mentioned above. More information…

The deadline for application is 31 March 2010.

Trainee position: Universal Nuclide Chart Update.

The applet currently has its nuclear data “hard coded” inside the program. It is the purpose of this traineeship to modify the applet such that the nuclear data is called from an external database. The database is available as part of the Nucleonica suite of programs. A second task will be to update and improve the user interface and make it more compatible with recent browser developments. More information…
The deadline for this applicaiton is 15 March 2010.

Nucleonica presentation at KIT Gamma Spectrometry Course

February 8th, 2010

J. Magill gave a presentation on the Karlsruhe Nuclide Chart and NUCLEONICA at the recent Karlsruhe Institute for Technology (KIT) training course on Gamma Spectrometry. In addition, an overview of ITU knowledge management, education and training activities was given. In the presentation, the paper-based nuclide charts were compared and contrasted to the electronic based NUCLEONCA portal from the viewpoint of obtaining nuclear data for gamma spectrometry. In total there were 18 participants mostly from Germany.
